Heavenslinger 1.1

Interface and feedback changes:

  • Below your current score the game now displays the current score multiplier.
  • Next to your current score the game shows how much is being added. Your score is directly linked to your damage.
  • A sound effect now plays whenever you get a new combo rank.

Most of these changes are in areas we felt were too obtuse for the player. How the game calculates score in particular doesn’t feel very intuitive and how the combo(D to S) rank affects it wasn’t well communicated in game. Aside from that, I’ve been playing a lot of DMC 5 recently and realized that the rank system in Heavenslinger doesn’t feel very rewarding, so I’ve added a sound effect whenever the rank changes so it feels more crunchy.

Gameplay changes:

  • If you fire the Super Shotgun mid-air it now propels you backwards.
  • You can now shoot Flame Launcher projectiles to make them explode, dealing damage and setting on fire any nearby enemies.
  • You can press Left Shift to dash in the direction you’re moving, consuming 25% of your invisibility meter.

There were complains that the Super Shotgun wasn’t very useful(Despite it being a big DPS boost at close range) so we added a mobility tool to it. We got suggestions that the self-knockback should be on the boombox, wich makes sense, but the boombox is already really good at knocking enemies in the void.

The Flame Launcher projectile explosion feels like a much needed area damage option for the player, and there are some tricks to make it work that we feel adds more depth to the game.

Now, about the Dash. There were many suggestions to get a dash in the player’s arsenal during development, and yeah, it really should’ve been there from the start. It makes dodging projectiles feel so much better, gives more options for who’s skilled at the game and a defensive tool for who’s struggling. And hopefully tying it to the invisibility meter should remind people to turn invisible from time to time.

Feel free to make suggestions to the game, we’re always looking to improve our projects.
